In a bid to make unreserved travel easier, the Adra Division of South Eastern Railway has come out with a mobile application ‘UTS’ to help passengers book an unreserved ticket, cashless and without waiting in long queues at railway stations.

This UTS app is s developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), a society set up by the ministry of railways to look after information system of the Railways, informed Sarad Kumar Srivastava DRM Adra Division.

“UTS will be launched officially in this region on 4 July,” added Srivastava.

This app is available free both on Google Play Store and Apple Store and can be downloaded using the internet. Transactions on this GPS based application can be made using ‘R-Wallet’ that does not carry any additional charges, he informed. This R-Wallet can be topped up in any Booking Office counter or online through the website www.utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.in., he said.

One can book season tickets and platform tickets too through this app. Initially, this app will be available only in the suburban sections but very soon it will be launched in the non suburban sections, he said.

One has to be within a 5kms radius of the station from where the journey commences to book a paperless ticket with a GPS-enabled smartphone.

The journey has to commence within three hours of booking and one has to open ‘show ticket’ window to show the ticket to a ticket examiner.

On the other hand, a paper ticket can be booked even while inside a station and a printout has to be taken from ATVM after providing the mobile phone number and booking number.

“The paperless ticket cannot be cancelled while Paper ticket can be cancelled,” he added.

It will prove a boon for the season ticket travellers as they need not spend a day to buy or renew the ticket while others unreserved travellers too would get benefited, he said.
