More than 200 aspiring Home Guards staged a protest in front of the Chief Minister’s residence in Agrico blocking the Agrico- Bhuiyandih main road on Monday morning as they were stopped from taking the physical test for recruitment of Home Guards under the state police department. The protest resulted in long queues of vehicles extending up to Sitaramdera bus terminus, creating hassles to the commuters.
City DSP Animesh Naithan reached the spot and urged the agitators to stop the road blockade.
“As we got the news, we rushed to the spot. They were agitating as they were not allowed to take part in the physical test as part of the recruitment process for home guards due to want of residential certificate. We told them to approach the civil administration and sort out the issues rather than blocking the road,” said Animesh Naithany.
The protestors then went to the district collectorate and staged a demonstration. East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar intervened and the protesters were given 10 days time to submit their residential certificate.
“ The matter was discussed and on the directive of the deputy commissioner, we had given them 10-days time to submit their residential certificate on an undertaking, after which they can appear for the physical test,” East Singhbhum ADC Sunil Kumar said.
The ADC explained to them that aspiring home guards have to produce residential certificate along with educational certificate (marksheet) and caste certificate (for those seeking reservation) for taking part in the physical test following which they dispersed.
