After about a week of harsh weather the city residents today heaved a sigh of relief with heavy pre- monsoon downpour accompanied by thunderstorm and cool wind brought the mercury down to 36 degree Celsius.

As per the prediction of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday thunderstorms, winds and light showers were witnessed in Ranchi at around 2’o clock in the afternoon. Intermittent light shower and thunderstorm persisted till the evening in Ranchi.  The Meteorological Department also predicted the same weather conditions for Kodarma, Hazaribagh, Khunti, Ramgarh and Bokaro areas.

The much awaited rain brought relive from the sizzling heat that persisted from Saturday. The temperature these days was breaking records of past few years by being above 40 degrees celsius. This pre-monsoon rain gradually decreased the temperature making the day pleasant and comfortable for common public.

The maximum and minimum temperature was recorded to be 36 and 25 degrees respectively for Ranchi on Tuesday, whereas for Daltonganj it was recorded to be 33.8 and 30.8 degrees respectively.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that light to moderate showers are also expected for next 2-3 days in some areas. “A fairly widespread rain has been experienced in Ranchi but the monsoon is expected to hit Jharkhand by 11th-12th June,” said BK Mondal, Director of Ranchi Centre of Indian Meteorological department.
