St. Xavier’s College student Megha Chauhan a young voter of the Ranchi Assembly constituency was excited that she would be voting for the first time in the upcoming general election.
Ironically, her enthusiasm could not last for long as her name is missing in the electoral roll. Irked Megha when questioned the concerned official, he told her that he is did not know anything about the missing name andadvised her to for the fresh enrollment.
A large number of enthusiastic young voters of the state capital are disappointed with their name missing in the voter’s list of the forthcoming general election. The irritated youths on complains are advised to submit forms for fresh enrollment.
Sujata Bedi another young voter annoyed over the goofed up voter’s list complained, “Being a responsible citizen of India I was eager to ensure my contribution in cleansing corruption from the politics which has taken roots. But now I have to wait for next five years to avail my voting rights as the concerned officials have put their hands up on the matter.”
These are not isolate cases, the usual confusion over names missing from voter’s list reappears this time as well. More than hundreds names were found to be missing from the voter’s list. The Election Commission of India (ECI) with the objective to increase the number of voters organized special camps for enrollment all across the country.
Huge turnout especially of young voters was witnessed at the camp. Interestingly, the Booth level Officers (BlO) are also not able to answer how the names got deleted from the list. They direct them to call higher-ups or get fresh enrollment.
Booth Number 271 BlO AP Chattopadhyay said, “I submitted all the forms at the collectorate office. How will I know why the name is missingIJ Our work was to collect the forms and submit it for the scrutiny.”
like him another BlO of Booth Number 272 Kalawati Devi said, “loop hole is not from our end. Instead of questioning us the voter’s should knock the higher authorities for an answer as they are liable for it.”
When District Election Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey was enquired over the matter he blamed the private agencies who have been assigned the scrutiny of form. He said, “The list compiled by the agencies have been up uploaded on the official website of the election commission. It is difficult to find the loop hole as elections are round the corner and have to focus on other issues too.”
