Ranchi Municipal Corporation earned bad reputation for misappropriation of holding tax by officials and multi-crore solid waste management scam by A2Z, however attempts are now being made to wash away the two blots on the face of the municipal corporation by adopting clean and transparent measures.

To begin with the, Mayor Asha lakra has directed officials to share details of a work for the convenience of all and sundry. While chairing a meeting of officials on Tuesday, lakra underlined the significance of sharing details of works which are done by a selected bidder in the municipal areas of Ranchi. Notably, the RMC which has budget of over Rs 800-crores spends a sizable portion on construction of roads, drains, beautification of ponds and parks besides several other measures of public importance.

“I have asked them to put up display board at sites where the work has been awarded by tender process. The display board should contain the nature of work, company name, what is the cost, data related to the type of work,” asserted lakra.

The significance of the decision becomes important as the urban civic body has been at the centre of storm due to some officials who siphoned off money collected as holding tax and alleged fraud of reported by CAG report which said that of Rs 23.54-crore spent by the RMC for waste disposal, Rs 4.72-crore was fudged. The report also said that the 92 waste disposal vehicles that RMC claimed to use, at least 11 did not exist.

Incidentally, the Mayor embarked on physical verification at Singh More, latma, Argora, Harmu and Morhabadi to verify beautification work of parks and lakes besides quality of under-construction drains at several places in the command area of the RMC.
