Dates, vermicelli, bakarkhani and many more.” said Mohammed Tauffique, shop owner in Ramadan Market.

“We desist from consuming food or drinking anything from dawn to dusk during this holy month. The fast is meant to allow Muslims to come close to Allah, to express their gratitude, to clean their past sins and to remind themselves of the needy,” said the Nahar Rehman, who was visiting Ekra Mosque.

“However, though fasting during Ramadan is mandatory, it is forbidden in some cases, like in case of children below the age of seven or people who are medically unfit, or elderly people. The Islamic holiday of Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting period of Ramadan as another new moon is sighted,” he further added.
