A Home Guard Jawan was arrested here from Morhabadi while trying to immolate himself protesting against the Government for demands of making changes in the service manual and also to stop the recruitment process of 10,000 Home Guards. Several others jawans were also arrested from different locations while heading towards Chief Minister’s residence to ‘gherao’ it in Ranchi.
“Our Deputy General Secretary Rajiv Tiwari was arrested on the charges of self immolation from Morhabadi in Ranchi. He was arrested while trying to immolate himself by putting petrol on his body; a bottle filled with kerosene oil has also been recovered from his possession,” said State president of All India Home Guard Welfare Association (AIHGWA) Ravi Mukherjee.
looking at the scheduled protest march by Home Guard Jawans, adequate security arrangement was done to stop them by barricading all vulnerable spots near the CM House.
Mukherjee along with Treasurer Ajay Yadav was also arrested near Oxygen Park in Morhabadi during the protest and were later taken to Additional Chief Secretary SKG Rahate and DG (Home Guard) BB Pradhan for talks. Rahate, after hearing Mukherjee patiently, assured him to look into the matter and asked to postpone their agitation for some time.
“The Additional Chief Secretary said that he was taking cognizance of the matter and will look into it,” said Mukherjee. On Rahate’s assurance, the agitation has been postponed for a month after which a ‘chakka jam’ will be staged in Ranchi if they fail to fulfill our demands, he added.
