AICC-appointed senior party leader Charan Das Mahant who has been made Pradesh Returning Officer for the party’s upcoming organisational elections in Jharkhand has noted the plight of his party men who complained about their overlooking.
Mahant, while holding meeting of the office-bearers of the party of Palamu, latehar, Garhwa, lohardaga, Gumla and Simdega on Monday, said that those who played pivotal role in adding members in the party would be given preference.
“During the meeting held at lohardaga, many of the leaders raised issues before the PRO that often those who work tirelessly for the party do not get positions and made delegates at the cost of the non-doers. This is one of the prime reasons behind not so good performance of the party. The JPCC president also iterated this feeling to which the PRO agreed as well and assured that this would not be repeated in the days to come,” said a general secretary present in the meeting.
Mahant is on three-day tour of the State in which party’s electoral roll and voters list for internal elections would be fine tuned.
Block level elections would be followed by election of the office-bearers of the District Congress Committees from September 4 to September 15 and of the Pradesh Congress Committees and of AICC members by the PCC general body from September 15 to October 15, accomplishing the task as per the deadline of December 31 this
year set by the Election Commission.
Senior party leader Alok Dubey after the meeting said that that only those districts would qualify for the internal polls where at least 50 per cent of its blocks made representation in the membership drive.
“Those districts that have performed well in making members would be eligible in taking part into the elections of office bearers. The party this time is giving utmost priority to membership drive,” said Dubey.
The PRO is scheduled to visit Bokaro on Tuesday where voters list would be scrutinised of Bokaro, Giridih, Chatra, Ramgarh, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Koderma and Chaibasa. On the last leg of his visit Mahant on June 14 would hold meetings with office bearers of Ranchi Mahanagar and Gramin and Khunti areas.
Earlier Dr Naresh Kumar and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Bakka Judson had finished preliminary exercise with party workers in the run-up of the elections slated to be held from August 21 to September 4.
