The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday burnt copies of the Jharkhand Mutations Act 2020 at Indira Gandhi Chowk in Latehar’s Chandwa Block Headquarters and said it would not allow the State Government to pass it.

Talking to media, Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said the State Government will try to pass this Bill on the last day of the Session giving exemption to plunder of the land of the poor. “The BJP will oppose this Bill from road to Assembly and will not allow the Bill to be passed in any case. If the Bill is passed, the land mafias and corrupt officials who looted the land of tribal and native people of Jharkhand will get strong protection,” he added.

“It is clear in Section 22 of the Bill that before taking any action against corrupt officials, there is a provision for first investigation and then permission by the Government. It is usually the case that if a tribal officer has wrongly bandobast the land of a tribal person to another person, then a lawsuit goes against him. But the Government has also retained the power to take cognizance of the courts. The Government is trying to give double protection to the corrupt officials,” Shahdeo said.

The party spokesperson said the BJP will not allow this anti-poor Government to pass a Bill and it will fight against it from streets to Assembly.

Meanwhile, hundreds of BJP workers on Sunday burnt copies of the Jharkhand Land Mutation Bill-2020 at different locations across Jharkhand.

Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha led the party workers at Randhir Verma Square. Former Mayor Chandrasekhar Agarwal, district BJP president CS Singh and other leaders were also present.

Both leaders condemned Government for bringing this Bill in Assembly.

BJP Dhanbad rural district president Gyan Ranjan Sinha said all 18 rural mandal committees organised the protest in different parts of district to vent the anger against Government move.

Sinha said by this Bill, the Government wants to get total control on the land of poor and marginalise farmers. The Bill also has provision of no punishment to officers for their mischief committed thus the BJP is opposed to such a Bill.
