Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad today stole the show in Ranchi University (RU) students' union elections, with their candidates winning in most colleges. The election was held in 19 educational institutions including post graduate (PG) departments for 95 posts on Thursday. The counting was held on Friday amidst reports of violence. The ABVP has emerged as winners with its candidates winning 65 posts out of 95. The Adivasi Chatra Sangh emerged as runner up with its candidates winning 22 posts, the students’ wing affiliated with AJSU party was successful in winning six seats. In two posts independent candidates won the election.

However, Ranchi University students’ union election was biggest disappointment for Congress’ students wing NSUI as the students like previous year failed to even open its account. Similarly, Jharkhand Chatra Morcha the students wing of JMM, JVCM the students wing of JVM(P) party of Babulal Marandi, Jharkhand Chatra Sangh and the candidates affiliated to Left parties failed to win even a single seats.

As the results were announced the members of Adivasi Chatra Sangh created a scene at RU campus the counting centre for students union with its members staging a demonstration. The Adivasi Chatra Sangh members blamed the university administration for working behind the curtain in victory of ABVP candidates.

With the ABVP candidates winning most of the seats in college panel, the election for university central panel will remain just a formality as for five central panels at university, the requisite number is 48 and the ABVP has won 65 posts. The college panel election at Ranchi University was held as per recommendations of Lyngdoh committee recommendations.
