Van mahotsav at Garhwa
Van Mahotsav cum-plantation programme was organised at Kalyanpur under Garhwa police station, on Saturday. The programme was inaugurated by MlA Satyendranath Tiwari, who said that trees are integral friends of human life and it is the duty of all the people that they must have a tree in their life. If there are trees, there will be pure environment and we can get pure air. The trees also provide us with clean air as well as wood, fruit, flowers etc. Zila Parishad Vice President Rekha Devi said that the government is being made aware of the environment through the Van Mahotsav. Besides, the campaign for tree plantation is also being run. People need to be aware of it.
Bottle crushing machines at stations
To provide eco-friendly environment to the rail commuters, South Eastern Railway has installed “Bottle Crushing Machines” at different stations over its jurisdiction. Everyday thousands of empty plastic bottles are discarded by passengers in the train coaches and station premises. It becomes difficult for the railway authority to dispose of this kind of waste manually. These bottles clog the sewerage and make the station premises filthy. The machines have already been installed at Santragachi, Shalimar, Kharagpur, Balasore & Digha stations of Kharagpur Division, Bokaro Steel City station of Adra Division, Chakradharpur & Tatanagar stations of Chakradharpur Division and Hatia, Muri & Ranchi stations of Ranchi Division.
