The Ranchi Police on Monday nabbed members of inter-State gang of vehicle lifters from Kishoreganj at Harmu. As many as seven members of the gang were arrested in the special operation launched following a tip-off of theft of a government vehicle from Muzzafarpur in Bihar. Another three persons are being interrogated in connection with the case.
“They used to sell cars stolen from Bihar to customers in Jharkhand and vehicles stolen from Jharkhand were sold to customers in Bihar. We suspect that would have stolen about 50 cars so far,” said SSP Ranchi, Prabhat Kumar.
The gang led by Rajesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Patna, has been active from a very long time.
The gang has been using all types of tools to lift vehicles, used to erase the engine number marked in the vehicle and print number of a damaged vehicle to avoid getting caught for doing the illegal business. Police has not ruled out nexus of the gang arrested with the similar gang in other states. The group busted allegedly used fake registration cards to make the vehicle stolen look genuine for hassle free trade in each State.
“There could be more people associated with the gang. We are interrogating them to find more leads in the case,” added the SSP Ranchi.
The operation involved PS in-charge of Sadar, Sukhdeonagar, lalpur, Chutia, lowe Bazaar, Jagarnathpur and Argora.
