For Chaibasa-based Pankaj Dubey, into film-making since 2011, this year is debut year since he got the opportunity to work as script supervisor, director and novelist for the first time.

Dubey said, “I worked as a script supervisor in upcoming Bollywood movie Ghanchakkar, starring Vidya Balan and Imraan Hashmi. I am also working as director for an untitled short film made on ‘Sadri’ language, highlighting the local tribal fair, Manda Mela.” He added, “I have also written a book focusing on youth genre — What a loser — under Penguin Publications, which will be launched in December.”

Pankaj has established a production banner, Sadak Chaap, which showcases grassroot short films. ‘Naach Ganesh’ was the first film Pankaj had made along with his friends Gaurav Dubey and Vikas Ranjan at Saraikela.

This 13 minute movie was shot with digital single lens camera and premiered at South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival. It was also presented in the Netherlands, Germany, los Angeles and France. “As an independent film maker, I had to struggle alot since there were rare film grooming mentors so I seek to encourage the youngsters of this region with techniques of making short independent movies using DSlR,” said Pankaj.

A three day workshop imparting information for such film methods would be organized at Pradhan Tower from Wednesday where 20 students interested in film making are supposed to participate.  Pankaj and Gaurav Singh will train them.

Pankaj said, “We would like to conduct more such workshops so that the unexplored youth film making talent of Jharkhand can get a platform to prove them.” Similar to Jharkhand-born film makers Imtiaz Ali, Abhishek Choubey and Rajkumar Gupta, Pankaj is all set to bring glory to Jharkhand.
