Almost entire Chhattisgarh witnessed continuous showers throughout Saturday which significantly eased out worries of farmers who were facing a drought-like situation.
The State Government has also heaved a sigh of relief on Saturday with incessant rains, as it was busy in preparing a contingency plan to help out farmers of paddy-growing districts such as Raipur, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Durg, Bilaspur, Bemetara, Balod and Baloda-Bazar.
As per the State meteorological department, Chhattisgarh’s majority of areas received heavy rains in past 24 hours and the department has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall across the State during the next 24 hours. As per the records, the State has so far received 270 mm rains, which is 38 per cent less than the average rainfall of 414 mm by this time.
However, it helped farmers to speed up sowing of kharif crops. The rains also brought down temperature and provided the much needed respite from the scorching heat. Raipurians on Saturday enjoyed the pleasant weather condition as sky in the State capital remained cloudy and the city saw good amount of rain throughout the day.
The situation was, however, a bit problematic for some low-lying areas as complaints of water-logging and water gushing in houses reported. Potholes filled with rainwater at main roads of the city and low-visibility due to rains also affected the traffic flow.
