PNS

The Chhatisgarh Government has decided to set up an Urban Development Authority as it stepped up initiatives to intensify developmental work in the urban areas which do not come under municipalities, officials said on Friday. The State Cabinet led by Chief Minister has already given its nod to this proposal. The State Government is now gearing up to formulate an Act in this regard. The municipalities carry out developmental work within the area of its jurisdiction while the area located outside of the urban bodies often stay neglected as gram panchayats are incapable of carrying out the work. The Government has decided to carry out systematic development of such area by setting up an Urban Development Authority, officials said. The area located out side of Raipur is being developed by Raipur Developement Authority. However no such authorities have been set up elsewhere in the State.

The State Government decided to set up the Urban Development Authority in line with the one established in Haryana. It has been decided to carry out developmental work outside the municipality area of Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh, Nandgaon,  Durg and other towns as they are expanding fast. It is preparing the necessary bill which would be soon placed before the Secretary level Committee.  After receiving its nod, the bill would be placed before the Assembly for approval. However officials said  the bill is unlikely to be tabled before the monsoon session of the Assembly.
