Water Resources Department Miinister Ravindra Choubey on Thursday ordered a probe by shifting the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district after it was alleged that he was involving his family member in maintenance of canals.

Balodabazar MLA Pramod Kumar Sharma during Question Hour in the Chhattisgarh Assembly raised the issue of SDO V.K. Sirmour, who he said has been working in the area for 15 years and who has given his family members license to maintain canals.

No proper work has been undertaken while the payments are being regularly made, leading to complaints by villagers, Sharma told the House.

BSP member Keshav Chandra said the issue prevails across the state and even information boards are not installed at the construction site.

The Minister said it will be ensured that all the public representatives will be told regarding the works being undertaken in their areas. He said the SDO will be removed and a probe will be initiated.

The MLAs appreciated the promise of immediate action and urged other ministers to learn from Choubey.
