Mahendra Kumar Sahu of the Rajnandgaon unit of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Secretary Sangh said the Secretaries discharge 200 types of work of 29 departments at the grassroots besides their main job and also execute state and central government schemes.

During the Corona crisis, the Secretaries executed and managed the tasks even as other employees sat in their homes, he alleged.

As many as 25 Secretaries died during the Corona crisis while discharging their duties, he said, adding they get Rs 25,000 as compensation while other employees are given Rs 50,000.

The state government had promised to regularize Panchayat Secretaries but the promise has been forgotten, he said.

The strike will continue until their demands are met, the leader warned.
