Congress raises objection to RSS-VCs meet

Staff Reporter

The Congress in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday raised serious objection over the meeting of Vice-Chancellors called by office bearers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

leader of Congress legislature Party (ClP) TS Singhdeo, wrote a letter to the Governor seeking stern action in the case and former ClP Ravindra Choubey demanded resignation of Vice- Chancellor who attended the meeting.

In the letter addressed to the Governor,  Singhdeo said that the Governor is the ex-officio Chancellor of all Government universities for controlling and regulating them. “Only the Governor has right to call a meeting of Vice Chancellors.

However, the meeting called by an organisation that nurtures a specific ideology is clearly infringement of your rights,” Singhdeo said.

He further maintained that the Vice-Chancellors before going to any such meetings should take permission from the Governor which is also the violation of code of conduct.

Former ClP Ravindra Choubey, while expressing similar sentiments said that Vice-Chancellors of Chhattisgarh Kamdhenu Vishwavidyalaya Raipur,

Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication Raipur, Bastar University Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh Swami Vivek-anand Technical University Bhilai, Durg University and Pt Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur had taken part in the meeting. He demanded suspension of the Vice-Chancellors and also registering of FIR against them for violating the rights of the Governor.

“The student union elections are near and calling the meeting of VCs by RSS office bearers is a serious incident,” Choubey alleged.
