Chhattisgarh Congress unit chief Bhupesh Baghel said on Sunday that Congress managed to win only one seat in 2004 and 2009 Parliamentary polls from Chhattisgarh but the party would deliver a much improved performance in upcoming lok Sabha polls. Chhattisgarh has total 11 lok Sabha seats.

“The party workers would strive to win maximum number of seats from Chhattisgarh to help Congress retain power at the Centre”, Baghel said while presiding over a meeting of Congress cadres of Raipur lok Sabha seat. Congress has not won Raipur seat for the past six lok Sabha election. A large number of senior Congress cadres attended the meeting which was held at the State Congress Bhawan on Sunday, in which, State Congress president Baghel, while giving his suggestions to the workers, said that paddy production in Chhattisgarh this year was less, in comparison to last year.

Paddy production of every farmer has been decreased to 25 to 30 per cent. Even then, the paddy production in the State has been shown 10 lakh metric tonne more than that of last year. He told the workers that all of them have to ask the Government and the people of their respective area that from where such a large quantity of paddy has been procured and how the Government got the Krishi Karman award.

Former Minister Mohammad Akbar, while encouraging the workers, said that challenges in election were not new for the Congress. In 2004 election also there were challenges. Besides that the UPA-1 formed Government and Dr Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister. Congress president Sonia Gandhi has always been accepted challenges. Now, we will face the challenges in the election bravely and will win the Raipur lS seat.

He said that several schemes of the Central Government were going on in the State. Chhattisgarh has been getting thousands of crores of rupees from the Centre. Congress workers need not to lower their morale. They should go to the people with the schemes of the Centre and elect such a leader from Raipur lS seat, who could reach the voice of Raipur and Chhattisgarh to Delhi.

MlA from Balodabazar and president of Raipur Rural Janakram Verma said that BJP’s Ramesh Bains had won the Raipur seat six times. He remains in his house for four years and nine months and during the election period of three months, moves in the lanes of villages, and perform Bhumi Poojan. Even then, people give him vote. He is such a MP from Raipur who could not raise his voice in Delhi. Workers make the leader. In such a situation Congress candidate should be made victorious from Raipur. They will make their candidate from Balodabazar victorious with 20,000 votes.

Congress media chief Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that the Central Government had launched various schemes for farmers, labourers and backward class people. Job, cheap food grain, right to information etc to the labourers are the gifts of the Congress. When the BJP Government was in power at the Centre, the Parliament building was attacked. Gold of the nation was mortgaged. He asked the workers to work hard during the time of election and make the Congress candidates victorious. Before the office-bearers, lower rank leaders also expressed their view and gave emphasis to work at the booth level.
