CM urged to dissolve Buch Panel

PNS

A group of human rights and citizen’s rights workers had called on Chief Minister Raman Singh regarding problems of more than 2,000 tribal people languishing in the jails of the State.

They have urged the Chief Minister to dissolve the Buch Committee formed in April 2012 and to form a new committee in its place. The workers led by former chief secretary Sharadchandra Behar, told the Chief Minister that the number of under-trials in the State jails was a matter of concern. In this case, an appeal has been made from Abujhmarh region to the Supreme Court. Discussion was held on the freedom of tribals, capacity of jails and political justice to the tribals.

They said that while taking the State on the road of development, it is necessary to find solutions to these issues. They, along with the government, wanted to find solution to the problems of under-trial tribals. The workers said that with the working style of the Buch Committee, it has been proved that its efforts were meaningless in both speed and efficiency. The concern for the under trials had launched the public interest litigation drive in India. The Supreme Court, through its decisions and directions, has been expressed its concern on this issue.

They also urged the Chief Minister to take measures for opening additional courts or tribunals in Bastar for the under trials. The Chief Minister assured the delegation to find a way by discussing the issue with the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of the State. The delegation included former MP Keyur Bhushan, tribal leader BPS Netam, SR Netam, and Umaprakash Ojha of Prayas organisation.
