Jammu & Kashmir MlA Abdul Rashid Sheikh was on Monday attacked with ink and engine oil by members of a right wing organisation, minutes after he held a Press conference at Press Club of India in the heart of the city. Two attackers, identified as Hindu Sena members, were arrested under relevant Sections of IPC at Parliament Street Police Station.
During the Press conference, Rashid criticised the attack on two truck drivers in J&K over rumours of cow slaughter. later, the Independent MlA who recently was in controversy for hosting a beef party in Srinagar, was stopped at the gate of Press Club by some TV journalists for interview when some persons shouting “gow mata ka apman, nahi sahega Hindustan (India will not tolerate any disrespect to cow)” pounced upon him with black paint and engine oil.
After the incident, Rashid told the media, “What happened to Sudheendra Kulkarni has happened to me...The world should see where India stands today.”
Cops present on the spot caught two persons — identified as Devendra and Deepak — both in their late 20’s and residents of East Delhi. They were taken to Parliament Street Police station and booked under sections 355(assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person, otherwise than on grave provocation), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
