Feedback sought for odd-even repeat

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought the views of Delhiites on the re-implementation of the odd-even car-rationing scheme in the national Capital.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government has asked all MlAs to organise Jan Sabhas (public meetings) in their respective constituencies on February 6 and 7 to seek people’s suggestions on the implementation of the second phase of the scheme.

“We have asked MlAs to make arrangements in this regard. We will take the people along and will implement the scheme again when they tell us to do so,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal said he wants people to “decide” whether this scheme should be implemented for a week, two weeks, a month or forever and has given four dates, February 14, March 1, April 1 and May 1 for the re-introduction of the scheme.

Public opinion will also be sought via email through a six-point questionnaire, while a phone survey will be introduced in the later phase.

“From January 26, we will issue advertisements asking the masses to email their suggestions to evenoddidea@gmail.com,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal added that the Government also wants to know whether Delhiites would buy a second car if the scheme is reintroduced.

“There is a perception that people will resort to buying a second car if the scheme is put in place for a longer term. We want to know how many of them will use this option. We are taking a cue from the experience of foreign countries where three to four per cent people adopted this practice. However, I don’t think many people will do this here, but we will still take their suggestions,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the broad questions on which the Government is seeking public responses include whether the scheme should be implemented againIJ If yes, when it should be done and forwhat duration; whether the exemptions introduced earlier were up to the mark or need to be reconsideredIJ

“We have decided to seek the public’s opinion in a structural way and incorporate the people’s suggestions before implementing the second phase of the odd-even scheme which received an overwhelming response from Delhiites earlier. Based on the feedback received by February 8, wewill analyse and come up with a concrete plan,” Kejriwal said while addressing reporters.

On Saturday, the AAP Government had hinted that the scheme might be reintroduced after the CBSE’s class XII examinations are over by March-end.
