The State Election Commission on Thursday issued notifications for the elections of the Chairman of 74 district panchayats across the state scheduled for next month.
State Election Commissioner, SK Agarwal said in lucknow that nomination papers will be filed on January 1 and the scrutiny will be done the same day. The last date for withdrawal of nomination will be January 4 and the voting and counting would be carried out on January 7.
Polling would be conducted between 11 am and 3 pm and thereafter votes will be counted.
There are 3,112 district panchayat members in 74 districts who are eligible to vote on January 7. Panchayat polls in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) is not being held due to an order of Allahabad High Court.
The ruling SP, which is the front runner, is likely to face tough fight in west-UP districts. The SP has already announced candidates for 64 districts. Other political parties are yet to announce any candidate so far.
After the completion of the district panchyat elections the SEC will initiate the process for the election of Block Pramukh in 822 development blocks in the state.
