Addressing a manmoth gathering during his road show on Thursday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said that the Narendra Modi govenment atthe Centre was 'anti-farmer' and hadreneged on its promises made to the masses before the lok Sabha polls.

"The PM has always fooled the public, especially the farmers by making false promises. Modi was touring foreign countries leaving the farmers and the poor in the lurch," Rahul charged.

The Congress leader started his road show from Swaraj Bhawan - his ancestral place, on Thirsday morning and madeits way through the Allahabad University and Civil lines before reaching the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari, where an overwhelming welcome was accorded to him.

later the road show meandered through Civil lines, Power House crossing and reached Johnstonganj where Rahul Gandhi paid floral tributes to the freedom fighters and addressed a public rally.

Taking a dig at the state government, Rahul said that the Samajwadi Party is now enmeshed in a family feud and will no longer befool the public as they had made false promises to the masses.

Rahul said that if the Congress came to power in UP after the 2017 Assembly polls, it would waive off loans of the farmers and halve thier power bills.

"The ruling govenments will have to pay the farmers for the crop loss due to seasonal variations in UP. The farmers andthe poor in the state were grappling with basic problems including power shortage, poor roads, water crisis etc. and the govenment of the day is doing nothing otherthan marketing its so called achievement," saidtheCongress leader.

The road show later passed through Khuldabad, Karbala, Sulemsarai, Bamrauli and headed to neighbouring Kaushambi district.

Earlier in the morning, as the car of Congress national spokesperson and MlA Rita Bahuguna Joshi reached Swaraj Bhawan to meet Rahul Gandhi, she was stopped from entering the campus with her vehicle by SPG personnel. Finally, Joshi and other Congress leaders had to go on foot to the main building.
