State government came in for sharp criticism on lokayukta selection issue with social activist Nutan Thakur demanding to impose President Rule while Bharatiya Janta Party asked chief minister Akhilesh to come out with truth in the matter.
“Akhilesh Yadav should come out and tell that who is speaking truth over consensus on Virendra Singh’s name”, demanded BJP State unit spokesman Harishchandra Srivastava. ``It’s a matter of lying before the highest court of the country by the State government”, Srivastava added.
He flayed Samajwadi Party Government and said that the state government had now lost the trust after leader of Opposition, Swami Prasad Maurya also supported the claims of chief justice of Allahabad High Court, Dr DY Chandrachud, that the three member committee had set aside the candidature of Justice (retired), Virendra Singh, at the discussion level. Srivastava further said that clarification of Akhilesh Yadav, the third member of the committee is also necessary as now his own cabinet colleague had charged Maurya of speaking a `lie’ on the issue just to defame the government.
Meanwhile. social activist Dr Nutan Thakur sought immediate imposition of President rule after coming into public of Maurya’s letter to Governor Ram Naik regarding the meetings for appointment of lokayukta. In her letter to Governor Ram Naik, Nutan said that Maurya as leader of Opposition present in the meeting of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Dr D Y Chandrachud and himself, has clarified through his letter that Yadav spoke blatant lie before the Supreme Court and the Governor.
If the Chief minister and the bureaucracy working under him do not hesitate even for a minute in telling lies before the highest court and before their appointing authority, it proves beyond all doubts that the constitutional machinery of the State has completely failed and the safety of the Nation, the State and the Constitution can no longer be trusted to such political masters. Hence Nutan has requested Naik to use his authority under Article 356 to immediately recommend President Rule in UP.
