A practising doctor in Agra who went missing mysteriously while on his way to the nursing home last Tuesday, was in fact honey trapped and held hostage before the police rescued him from Dholpur in neighbouring Rajasthan. Dr Umakant of Itmad-ud-Daulah area of Agra had left home for his nursing home but never reached his destination on Tuesday morning. After his gynecologist wife Dr Vidya Gupta complained to the local police and an FIR was lodged at Itmad-ud-Daulah police station, the missing doctor’s phone was put under electronic surveillance but it was found to be switched off. However the phone’s last location was traced to Saiyan on the outskirts of Agra.
Subsequently, the Agra police started scanning CCTV footage and the Rajasthan police were contacted as Saiyan is close to the UP-Rajasthan border. The Agra police also reached out to Madhya Pradesh police but it later transpired that the doctor was honey trapped by a woman and held hostage in the ravines of Dholpur, Rajasthan.
Later, teams of Agra police and Rajasthan Police raided a place in a ravenous hideout, called ‘addi’ in local parlance, in Dholpur and managed to rescue the kidnapped doctor and also arrested a woman and two of her aides. Agra’s Superintendent of Police (City) Rohan P Botre said that Dr Umakant fell prey to a honey trap as he was in contact with a woman and the latter called him for a meeting on the fateful day. “As the unsuspecting medico went to the rendezvous, he was abducted and taken to Dholpur. The miscreants were about to demand ransom from the doctor's family, but the joint police team dropped the net on them and arrested a woman and her aide. Search is underway for some other accomplices,” the SP (City) said.
