Meeting of Congress leaders to finalise names of candidates for 110 corporators and Mayor of lucknow Municipal Corporation ended on a noisy note after different groups almost came to blows to get their favourites name in the final list.

With no prominent citizen showing interest in fighting the  Mayoral poll, some Congress leaders who failed to get a ticket in Assembly poll, were now pressuring the brass to field their women kin or wives.

Sources confirmed that the party brass would field a candidate for Mayoral poll who could financed her election and could help other coroporator aspirants financially. It may be mentioned that unlike the last Assembly poll where ticket for all seating MlAs were confirmed in the first meeting, the ticket for sitting Congress corporators is yet to confirmed and their names were put in the list of probables.

A Congress leader disclosed,”A high-level meeting of City Congress Committee discussed names of corporator aspirants and also Mayor but it ended in an impasse with different groups almost coming to a head to get their favourites included in the final list.”

The Congress leader claimed that as six to ten candidates were applying for a corporator’s seat but the party would allot the ticket to those who could finance their own election. He said that similarly for Mayoral candidate, the party would field some one who was financially strong and who could also help at least dozen corporator aspirants.

Sources said that amidst infighting, City Congress president Bodhlal Shukla  decided to send names of three to six candidates for every seat to UPCC chief Raj Babbar so that it could be placed before State level Committee and a final decision could be taken. Almost all names were likely to be finanlised by the first week of November.
