BJP MlAs for renaming lU after Atal

PNS

On the last day of the brief monsoon session of UP Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party MlAs moved resolutions for debate and renaming of lucknow University as Pandit Atal Bihari Vajpayee University and Sultanpur district as ‘Kush Bhavanpur’.

The debate on the two resolutions moved by the BJP MlAs is likely to be held in the next session of the Assembly.

The resolution for renaming lucknow University was moved by Avinash Trivedi, BJP MlA from Mahona Assembly seat in lucknow, while the resolution for renaming Sultanpur was moved by Devmani Trivedi, BJP MlA from lambhua in Sultanpur district.

Earlier, in a grand event on August 5, Mughal Sarai railway junction, the busiest railway station of India, was renamed after BJP ideologue Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. The event was presided over by BJP president Amit Shah.

The names of airports at Agra, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Bareilly are also proposed to be changed by the BJP-led UP government.   Earlier in February this year, Minister of State (independent charge) Dharam Singh Saini had urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to change the name of Sheikhul Hind Maulana Abdul Hasan Medical College at Saharanpur and name it after some other icon.

Saini, who was Cabinet minister during Bahujan Samaj Party regime (2007-12), had written a letter to the Chief Minister saying that the college was named after BSP founder Kanshi Ram but the previous Akhilesh Yadav government had renamed it after prominent Deobandi Muslim cleric Maulana Abdul Hasan.

Soon after the BJP came to power in UP in March 2017, BJP MlA Brijesh Singh from Deoband Assembly constituency in Saharanpur had demanded that Deoband town be renamed as Debvrind. He argued that Deoband should be known for its historical association with Mahabharat and not the Islamic seminary of Darul Uloom Deoband.
