Taking a jibe at the merger of Qaumi Ekta Dal with the Samajwadi Party, the state BJP unit questioned as to how could a party vouch to improve law and order when it was accommodating criminals into its fold.
“Who heads the QED is no secretIJ Everyone knows about the background of leaders who run this party. The merger of the QED with the SP is a clear signal that the ruling party is now not averse to criminals,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in lucknow on Tuesday.
Pathak said that though the merger was an internal matter of the SP but in politics such alliances did send signals. “There are reports that rumbling has started in the Samajwadi Party after senior leader Shivpal Singh Yadav announced the merger. Even party leaders have started questioning this merger decision,” the BJP leader said.
Pathak said that earlier SP leaders had claimed that the merger would be announced by Mulayam Singh Yadav but later Shivpal Singh was asked to make the decision public. “Why did Mulayam Singh avoid the media on this issue. There must be something fishy,” he said.
“In 2012, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had ruled out the entry of DP Yadav into the party thereby winning accolades for being committed to improving law and order. The CM should tell people as to where has that resolve gone now,” he said.
The BJP spokesman said that the CM’s resolve had suffered a dent after noted criminals joined the ruling party. “How can a government improve law and order when it is welcoming criminals doing time in jails,” he said.
