Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Towards poll reforms” (June 28).
The BJP should be credited for making recommendations for electoral reforms. As rightly mentioned in the editorial, more often than not the Speaker of the House acts under political pressure, so it is ideal that the prerogative to disqualify a member rest with the Election Commission .
Given that there is hardly any transparency with regard to how how much money is spent by political parties, the source of their funding etc, it is absolutely imperative to revamp the system.
