Sir — It is unfortunate that a young daughter of a martyred Army officer said that war and not Pakistan killed (not martyred) his father. At a time when our soldiers are regularly being martyred, such statements are untimely.
However, those giving her threats of rape are guilty not only because such threats are immoral but also because they give undue publicity to Gurmehar Kaur and her improper comments. Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag’s comment that his bat rather than he himself scored a triple century for India was a fitting reply to Gurmehar Kaur.
Those calling themselves to be nationalist elements should become truly nationalist by avoiding threats which are not only impractical, but are also against the civilised nature of society. Such threats unnecessarily increase the burden of the police force because of security provided to persons making untimely and unfair comments. It’s best to avoid such comments.
