Sympathy factor

J Akshobhya
Sir — Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, following on his earlier reference to Ms Sonia Gandhi shedding tears during the food security Bill debate, upped the ante on tear-jerking emotions. Playing on sentiments is just about all that he does.
He is shamelessly trying to revive family sympathy. Sure, he can flay the BJP’s politics. Even the viciousness of Muzaffarnagar violence must be condemned. Yet, were any of the entities involved in that communal flare-up even remotely linked to the assassination of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv GandhiIJ
It is dangerous for Mr Gandhi to talk about assassinations and the possibility of his being killed. We are living in crazy times. There is no dearth of cold-blooded conspirators in our midst. They may get ideas. India cannot afford another general election fought on a sympathy wave.
