Sir — Sri lanka handed India a memorable Independence Day gift when India beat Sri lanka by an innings and 171 runs. India completed a clean sweep with 304 runs in the first and 53 in the second innings. That India played well throughout the series is a fact that cannot be contested, and it would be churlish to take anything away from the team. The Indian team had the good fortune to catch a Sri lankan team low on experience, ability and confidence. Even the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble managed to win only one series with Sri lanka.
