Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Criminal insensitivity” (February 3). The death of Nido Taniam, a teenager from Arunachal Pradesh due to the beating that some people in Delhi gave him, is shocking. It must be condemned, and the perpetrators brought to book and severely punished.
Racial discrimination, especially against those who hail from the North-East, is on the increase, particularly in Delhi. In the 21st century, this sort of behaviour is indeed disgusting. Our faulty and inadequate educational and social systems are responsible for such incidents.
There is no use protesting about racial discrimination meted out to our students in the US and other countries, when we humiliate our own people hailing from the North-East.
