Sir — This refers to the report, “Blasts fail to foil Modi rally” (October 28). The Patna blasts could not prevent Mr Narendra Modi from proceeding with his mission to foster the spirit of unity among Hindus and Muslims in a State where politicians have cleverly mastered the art of boosting their vote-banks through caste and communal divides. The serial bombs did not browbeat the large sea of people as well, and they did not move an inch.
Mr Modi’s sarcastic jabs at his “friend” and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar exposed the latter’s hypocrisy. The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate’s gem was his take on poverty vis-à-vis religion. By focussing on the importance of poor people lifting themselves, irrespective of the religion they belong to, Mr Modi drove home the message he wanted to deliver.
When Congress leader Rahul Gandhi continues to live in his blunderland of harping on Muslims being victimised, Mr Modi vanquished the former’s arguments by stressing the need to eliminate India’s greatest enemy, poverty.
The media had thought that Mr Modi would use the Patna blasts to his advantage. But the Prime-Minister-in-waiting did not dwell on what was a glaring failure of the State Government.
