Scientists shackled

J Akshobhya

Sir — Bharat Ratna and scientist CNR Rao has candidly accepted that, like most of their fellow countrymen, Indian scientists don’t always work hard. There is a coterie around science managers, and research papers are not forwarded without their names as authors to reputed journals.

Scientists in India have to work within the socio-economic limitations. There are unions of scientists in  every institute. The selection to science positions is opaque. Indian scientists working abroad, therefore, perform better.
