Sir — Former American Vice President Joe Biden should be a role model for Indian politicians. On one occasion, Biden, during his tenure as America’s Vice President, even thought of selling his house to meet medical expenses for his son Beau Biden, who was fighting cancer (unfortunately, he died later).
It was the greatness of the then American President Barack Obama, who assisted him, rather than use public funds for personal needs. Biden, during his long career as a Senator, never claimed a single penny from the public exchequer. Recently, Obama too was seen behaving like an ordinary citizen during his vacations. He stood in queues at restaurants and grocery shops. After retirement, he shifted to a small rented accommodation.
The world’s largest democracy, India, should follow the world’s oldest democracy, America, in snatching all princely facilities available to political rulers at least after retirement. Then only they can realise practical problems of the common citizens ruled by them.
