Sir — Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has given a perverse reasoning to justify hoarding and black-marketing by small traders. He said that they are doing it because they have to educate their children and make a living! He went a step ahead and said they wouldn’t be punished.
Just because some people indulge in murder and rape, it doesn’t mean that those involved in pick-pocketing should be ignored. To an extent, inflation is also accounted for by the practice of hoarding and black-marketing of goods at the distribution level.
Such populist utterances must be strongly condemned by one and all. The means must be legitimate to achieve goals.
