Not satisfactory

NR Ramachandran

It is unfortunate that Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has hiked the freight charges in the Railway Budget. This can lead to an increase in the prices of essential commodities.

There was no justification for the increase when the oil price has declined. People expected that train fares would come down for the same reason.

Also, the 120-day duration for advance booking of tickets was unwanted. Indian Railways will now have public money for a larger number of days, which is unjust.  However, it is good that no new trains have been announced. Many new trains named in the yesteryear Budgets are still struggling to operate efficiently.
