Sir — This refers to the article, “Doubly tragic for some refugees” (March 14) by Ranu Joardar. What is happening in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan in particular, is a slap on the face of civilised countries. It is also a fact that this is an intra-Muslim problem. The author’s concern for the double tragedy for gay refugees seems to be misplaced.
People from the lGBT community represent an insignificant fraction of the population. Their tragedy pales into insignificance when compared with those of Bengali refugees from east Pakistan/Bangladesh who are a victim of religious persecution. Their suffering is virtually endless.
