Miserable tenure

Ganapathi Bhat

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “The purveyors of suffering” (November 28). The Gallup study has echoed the sentiments of the people of India. Many Indian newspapers have pinned the UPA Government for its abject failure to infuse a sense of security, stability and prosperity among the citizens. The average person is facing hardships like never before, after the UPA took charge.

The last six years have been excruciatingly painful for Indians, as evidenced by the Gallup study. The country’s image has taken a severe beating. Inflation is high, with economist-turned-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh doing precious little to revive the economy. Unemployment has hit a nadir with youngsters not being provided the right environment and opportunity to take up self-employment. Cities have been pampered by allowing excessive proliferation in the name of ‘satellite towns’ while small towns and villages have been left in the lurch.
