Sir — This refers to the editorial, “End of a murky cult” (August 29). With Gurmeet Ram Rahim likely to spend two decades either behind bars or trying to stay out of prison, one question that everyone wants answered is: What will become the Dera Sacha Sauda which he has been for the past 27 yearsIJ
Apart from the influence that it peddles, the Dera owns huge properties worth hundreds of crores. Also, the land it has encroached upon, is a massive one which is taken without authorisation. The most dangerous is the stockpile of sophisticated weapons within its premises, clearly with the intention of taking on the law-enforcers if need be.
If this sentence serves to break the stranglehold of other godmen, then this would be a healthy precedent.
