Letter to the Editor

larger interest

GUlAB SHANKER SINGH

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “What after roll-backIJ” (March 10). Only a section of people, that is, the salaried class, will stand to benefit from the Union Government’s decision to roll back a Budget proposal to tax 60 per cent of the Employees’ Provident Fund amount. A large number of people who are not employed or are employed through daily wages or those who are running small business or have an industrial undertaking, will suffer in the near future.

Ultimately, this will act as a slow repulsive force, leading to a future discouragement of the habit of saving and thereby lead to investment of money in the National Pension Scheme. Hence, the Government should decide the same roll-back of NPS in the larger interest of the public.
