Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Commitment honoured” (March 6). A mention is made in the editorial on the lack of grace displayed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Begum Khaleda Zia in cancelling her meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee, who was recently on a visit to Dhaka.
last year, our very own West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Bangladesh for bilateral discussions. This was as much a discourtesy to her Bengali neighbour, as it was to her own Prime Minister. In a troubled neighbourhood as ours, the art of keeping friends is paramount. This applies to both sides of a geographical divide.
