Sir — This refers to the article, “Old, new crisis that faces regional parties” (October 14) by Kalyani Shankar. Now that all the portfolios held by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa have been re-allocated to the State’s Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, he should assert himself and see that the administration is run without any let-up.
Unlike previous occasions when he held the Chief Minister’s post twice, the present situation is different. Realising the great responsibility that has fallen on his shoulders, in the wake of Jayalalithaa’s illness, he should start acting as the de facto Chief Minister, though he has not been designated so.
