Sir — Pakistan election results are strictly in accordance with pre-poll predictions of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leading the poll, but to be compulsorily dependent on outside support of independents, with the Army as usual playing a major role in Government-formation, one needs to wait and watch.
While in India, money is vital to purchase independents and others in case of hung Assemblies or the lok Sabha, it may be that the Army managed support of independents for seating its favourite on the post of Prime Minister, would make him/her dance to the tune of Army, thus making the latter the king-maker.
On the one hand, Imran Khan has a number of friends in India made during his cricket career, and on the other hand, many do not like him because of his controversial personal life with numerous broken marriages.
Under any circumstance, one may assume that the probable crowning of Imran Khan as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan may not in any way change Pakistan’s policy towards India. However, the Indian Government must keep a vigilant eye on the position of minorities in Pakistan under the new regime.
