Forty three-year-old Ganpatsinh Vasava became the 23rd Speaker of Gujarat Assembly on Monday. The MlA from Mangrol Assembly constituency in South Gujarat was elected unanimously after his name was proposed by the acting Speaker Mangubhai Patel and supported by the Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and the leader of Opposition Shankersinh Vaghela.

The young tribal leader became the Gujarat Assembly Speaker for the second time on Monday. From February 24th, 2011 to 26th December 2012, he served the House as the Speaker. He was the Forest and Environment Minister in Narendra Modi’s as well as Anandiben’s Government. After being elected as the Speaker of the House, Vasava was escorted by Patel and Vaghela to the chair of the Speaker.

In the past, he got the opportunity to become the youngest Speaker of the country after the death of then Speaker Ashok Bhatt. This time Vasava became the Speaker following Vajubhai Vala’s resignation after his appointment as Karnataka Governor. Immediately after filing the nomination for Speaker’s post on Friday, Vasava resigned from the post of Minister (Cabinet rank) of Forest & Environment, Tribal Welfare and law & Parliamentary Affair.

“Responsibility of running the House smoothly falls on all the MlAs. I expect co-operation from every member of House,” Vasava said after assuming the chair of Speaker.

While congratulating Vasava for being unanimously elected as the Speaker of 13th State Assembly, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel expressed her greetings for his long journey from a social worker of the tribal area to the Assembly Speaker Patel said that his experience would surely help in preserving the dignity of his new responsibility.

She also appreciated the works done by. Vasava as the Minister for Forest and Tribal and said that Vasava was very sensitive towards the problems of the people and he will continue this tradition as a mass leader in future too.
