Congress president Sonia Gandhi cautioned the people against trusting the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and giving the future of the new State of Telangana in its hands.
Addressing a mammoth election rally at Chevella in Ranga Reddy district on Sunday Sonia Gandhi said that the TRS had supported communal forces in the past.“This time also there is no guarantee that they will not do it again. You cannot give the future of the new State in the hands of such forces,” she said.Sonia addressed two election rallies at Chevella and Andole in Medak district on the penultimate day of campaigning in Telangana.
The Congress president said that both the BJP and the TRS were afflicted by the same “disease of personality cult” and were not able to see any leader other than one individual. “Such forces don’t have faith in democracy or the poor and the weaker sections. They were more interested in their own ends”, she said.Rejecting the Opposition’s allegation that the Congress had delayed the formation of Telangana State, she counter charted the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress Party for changing their stand every day.
“TDP and YSRCP leaders changed their stand in all party meetings and the Parliament and Assembly. But the Congress refused to compromise on the wishes and aspirations of the people of Telangana,” she said.“I cant tell you how difficult it was to evolve a consensus among various political parties as they used to bring a new excuse every day and their leaders used to say one thing one day and another thing next day”, Sonia Gandhi said.
“The Congress heard your voice and formed the Telangana State, though our party had to suffer a political loss but we never cared for it,” adds the Congress president urging the people to bring a Government to power which will work for the inclusive development and social justice in the State.Sonia further promised to continue the development works in the region which were taken up by the Congress Government over the last 10 years. “One of the seven satellite cities in the State will soon come up in your area at Viqarabad,” she said.
