Lashing the disciplinary whip, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Thursday, suspended District Magistrate of Sonbhadra, TK Shibu, on corruption charges and for not adhering to rules during the election.
Shibu is accused of corruption on a large scale during the elections. He has also been accused of corruption in mining and construction works.
“Public representatives had also complained against him that he was making money from mining. The complaints were supported by many activists of civil societies,” a government official said
Besides, during the 2022 UP assembly elections, he has also been accused of serious negligence as district election officer. It was informed that he did not seal the box carrying postal ballot papers during the election. Pictures of open boxes went viral and at one stage the Election Commission of India was close to cancelling the election in the district, the official said.
He said the situation could be salvaged only after the divisional commissioner of Vindhyachal got the box sealed by taking representatives of different political parties into confidence.
“In view of these allegations, the government has decided to suspend Shibu. He has been attached with the Revenue department during his suspension period,” Additional Chief Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi said.
Meanwhile, the government suspended Senior Superintendent of Police of Ghaziabad, Pawan Kumar, for dereliction of duty and for his failure to control crime. During his suspension period the IPS officer has been attached with the DGP office.
