Following high alert sounded by the Central agencies over terrorist threat, the security forces in Uttar Pradesh launched a major search operation in Ghaziabad and Bijnore on New Year’s eve. The high alert came after the Central Intelligence agencies issued advisory following the sneaking of some terrorists from Nepal to UP.

Police sources said that search operation has been launched in Ghaziabad where one of the terrorists sneaked from the porous border of Nepal was said to be hiding along with huge quantity of explosives.

The Intelligence units have beefed up security measures in view of the visit of US President Barack Obama in the country next month. Obama would be the chief guest on the Republic Day function at New Delhi to be held on January 26.

“Around 100 policemen have been engaged in Ghaziabad to trace the hiding terrorist,” sources said. They said an intensive checking drive would be carried out in the colonies to find out where the terrorist would be hiding or where the explosives would have been stored. IB has alerted UP that around 10 terrorists have sneaked into the country through Indo-Nepal border and were hiding somewhere in west UP.
